| Yummy Apple |
The weather here yesterday was cloudy and gray. The chilly fall wind reminded me that our patio furniture needs to be stored away for the winter and the dampness in the air made me long for the protective warmth of a blanket around my shoulders.
Mark and I were putting our patio furniture in the garage and making plans for mugs filled with steaming cocoa followed by an afternoon nap when two little boys dressed in the tell-tale brown and blue uniform of Beaver Scouts ambled up our driveway, each with a basket of apples wrapped around their arms.
“Would you like to make a donation for an apple?” asked one of the boys shyly.
Reaching into is pocket, Mark pulled out a shiny loonie and dropped it into the coin slot of the boy’s tin can. With a chest puffed out in pride and eyes filled with delight, the other boy reached a mitten-covered hand in his basket and handed me a shiny red apple.
“Thank you for your donation for a yummy apple,” he said with a nervous giggle.
That apple warmed my heart and tasted sweeter than any old cup of cocoa ever could.Labels: Kids Say the Cutest Things |

| That probably doesn't tickle |
Remember all the silly things you used to say when you were little? Yeah me neither. But apparently, from what my mother tells me, I used to think I was an expert in the field of external male genitalia. After she finished explaining to me what circumcision was, I promptly went to school the next day and asked my teacher if it was true that some boys are CRUCIFIED when they are born.

| Hippie |
So while my mom’s nephew and his four year old daughter were visiting, she happened to notice a picture of my dad from his long haired hippie days.
Curious about the lustrous and flowy locks of hair on his head she pipes up and asks, “Was that picture taken when Paul was a girl?”
That sort of hilariously innocent naivety is exactly why I wanted to have kids.Labels: Kids Say the Cutest Things |

| Kids are so darn cute |
My cousin’s nephew is perhaps one of the cutest and sweetest little boys to grace this planet. He is also very smart and is already learning about the power of compounding interest and investing and I swear, if I knew then what that boy already knows, I probably could have bought out the Ikea franchise by now. And I would have so replaced all of their furniture with adult sized Bumbo’s because, dude, the college kids would go crazy for easy wipe furniture that you can spill beer all over and still comfortably pass out in it.
The other day my cousin wrote me an email and told me about how her nephew’s school was having a bake sale to raise money for a special needs child and how he asked his mom if he could bring extra money to give to his classmates in case they didn’t have any. I was all like, ahhh, what a thoughtful and compassionate kid. And then I almost fell on the floor laughing when she went on to say that he wants to be rich and work at the dollar store when he grows up. It wasn’t the irony in that oxymoron that made me laugh so hard though, it was the part about when he asked his mom where you buy thrones because, oh my god, can you imagine shopping at the dollar store knowing the dude behind the cash register goes home at night to sit on his throne?
And then there is my cousin’s niece. She is just starting to discover the wonders of receiving surprises via snail mail and not one to be left out, has started sending off her own surprises in the mail, including sending her Aunt an envelop stuffed with a red mitten that belongs to my mother.
Hi mom! Word is that your mitten arrived safe and sound and Teena said that she'll return it next time she's in town.
